Jojoba oil (Simmondsia chinensis) is a liquid wax extracted from jojoba seeds, from a shrub that grows in dry areas of the southwestern United States. It is considered a high-quality base oil thanks to its high stability and light texture. It is also ideal as a base for liquid, non-alcohol-based perfumes. This jojoba oil is the unrefined golden variety, which is considered the highest quality.

The fact that it is not an oil, but consists of liquid wax substances, probably explains why jojoba so effectively binds moisture to the skin. It contains more of the monounsaturated fatty acid gadoleic acid, which is found in the fatty tissue of the skin. Gadolic acid has a balancing effect on the skin’s sebum production and jojoba is therefore suitable for all skin types, including oily and acne-prone skin.
