Wagenpflege Tips - Care Tips for Your Classic and Modern Cars
“Ordnung muss sein”, or orderliness is a must – especially when it comes to perfect car care.
Tapir has developed a simple system for its care products for classic and vintage cars.
Simple number combinations allow you to find the right product for each area of care.
The main uses of the thirteen different products for vehicles:
1 stands for lacquer
3 stands for plastic
4 stands for upholstery fabric
5 stands for leather
6 stands for wood
9 stands for accessories
There is a second digit in each sequence, e.g. 1.2.
You then use the products in ascending order in each area. So nothing can go wrong!
For example: The shampoo with code number 1.0. is followed by the paint cleaner 1.2. and then the polish 1.3. to the high-gloss paint 1.5.
Choosing the desired or necessary polish couldn’t be easier.
And in your workshop, there is order and no confusion.
In addition, Tapir car care products are simple and easy to use.
For your car
The list of problem areas on old vehicles is long: faded paintwork, unsightly scratches, as well as burnt-on dirt, old stickers, tar and insect residues, not to mention under-rust, dried-out sealant, stains in the paintwork and unsightly wax residues – to name but a few.
Do you want your car to look like new? Original? With patina? Or just keep it in its current state with all traces of the past? With Tapir car care, you have the choice.
As good as new: A specialist will ensure the original condition – and you can maintain this by regular waxing.
Original: Vehicles in original condition show changes in the paintwork after many years. Here you can restore the original condition as far as possible with a gentle abrasive additive and wax sealant.
With patina: such vehicles tell of their eventful past. Small scratches, dents and possible rust make it possible to draw conclusions about the vehicle’s past life. You can preserve the patinated condition of your vehicle with the Tapir car care range. On the inside, the upholstery and/or leather, the roof, the wooden, leather or plastic fittings, the steering wheel, the floor covering and the windows need care. On the outside, Tapir car care products are used for tires, windows, paintwork, plastic or metal bumpers, vinyl roofs or softtops.
For your tractor
It is a small, close-knit and highly specialized circle of enthusiasts dedicated to preserving old tractors. Vintage tractors deserve the best possible care and preservation. After all, they tell us a lot about life and work in the past. We particularly recommend the varnish oil.
A shiny motorcycle
Whether it’s a bicycle, motorcycle or sidecar, a nostalgic two- or three-wheeler can be more difficult to maintain than a car or tractor from the past. They have an almost infinite number of edges, corners, hidden nooks and crannies where dirt and rust can accumulate. Salty dirt in particular can quickly bring a two-wheeler’s life to an undignified and tragic end. Plenty of running water and a mild cleaning agent from Tapirs Wagenpflege can be very helpful here. And to protect the few painted surfaces on two-wheelers, follow the same procedure as for car care. Tapir motorcycle care products are specifically designed for use on seats, spokes and wheels, glass, paint, plastic, and the fuel tank.

Tapir’s founder, Bodo Rengshausen-Fischbach, and his team can look back on more than 30 years of experience successfully developing formulas for natural care products. And the company has remained 100 percent true to these principles in developing the products for Tapir Car Care—Wagenpflege. Because where you see “Tapir” on the label, nature is inside.
Transparency and honesty are important cornerstones of the Tapir world. That’s why all ingredients are labeled on the packaging.
Waxes, resins, fats, oils and solvents are used, all of which are of plant origin. High quality and natural raw materials – sourced from four continents – together form the basis of the unique formulas used in Tapir car care products. True to the founder’s motto: “Only the best is good enough!”
One thing first:
Tapir Wagenpflege’s product line currently consists of 13 products —tailored for a wide range of applications and for use on all single- and dual-track vehicles, past and present—from classic cars to “youngtimers” and the classics of tomorrow.
Natural raw materials
A point of pride: Tapir Wagenpflege products are made exclusively from natural ingredients. The high-quality and often very expensive raw materials come from many different countries.
Jute sacks full of fragrant beeswax and top-quality carnauba wax are stacked high in Tapir’s warehouse. Also locked away in the office are countless barrels of orange peel oil and finely sorted bags of different earth color pigments, which are used to color the products in a natural way.
Other natural ingredients such as castor oil are also very important. Natural solvents, the traditional household product vinegar, but also rapeseed oil, fatty acid from sunflower oil, sugar cane wax, borax, marble flour, caustic soda, shellac wax and last but not least carnauba wax.
Carnauba wax and other precious stones
For the paintwork on a vehicle to be really perfectly maintained, you need waxes that can be polished. Waxes that provide a certain smoothness. Waxes that allow water to be beaded up. Waxes that can withstand temperature changes
The secret is revealed:
Tapir’s car care products combine a variety of waxes, oils, fats, and solvents into a unique blend. But finding the perfect combination of ingredients is an art—and requires decades of experience working exclusively with natural raw materials. Tapir has been drawing on this experience for over 30 years.
One—but only one—important component in the careful selection of the finest natural raw materials is carnauba wax, which is rightly highly regarded among experts. It is undoubtedly the hardest natural wax—and hard wax promises the best polishability. Tapir Car Care naturally uses the highest-quality carnauba wax.
Other raw materials, often much more expensive, are also used, including candellila, shellac and cane wax.
The key is to find the perfect balance between the natural raw materials, whose different characteristics guarantee the best results.
For good reason, Tapir offers only one high-gloss wax—the best one available. Because only the best is good enough for us at Valfrids—and for your car!
The Reflectometer is a device that measures the gloss level of surfaces and therefore also of car paint. It provides the ultimate proof of the unsurpassed quality of Tapir car care. And that’s why we can say without exaggeration: it simply doesn’t get shinier than this!
The recipes and how it started
Tapir Wagenpflege was in no hurry at all to develop the formulas.
Always true to this credo, the company’s founder Bodo Rengshausen-Fischbach, together with his close-knit circle of colleagues, has worked meticulously on the composition and constant improvement of the recipes and the use of all-natural ingredients.
The initial idea to launch a Tapir car care product dates back to the 1980s.
It was Bodo Rengshausen who was immersed in an intense search for old literature and sources. Much is forgotten knowledge today.
The rediscovered recipe manuals were often more than 100 years old and proved to be a real treasure. They had been written in an era before the discovery of petrochemical raw materials. In yesterday’s care products, natural waxes, oils and solvents were the basic ingredients.
Bodo Rengshausen-Fischbach has invested a small fortune in cookbooks that were thought to be lost. As a result, Tapir Wagenpflege now has one of the world’s most extensive collections of rare books on the subject.
The hunt for raw materials
It was another big step from the theory of old books to practice.
The search began for suppliers from whom these—from today’s perspective—exotic ingredients could be sourced. They are all traditional companies that operate in the same way as Tapir does: thoughtfully, yet consistently. Most of the suppliers have been with us since the beginning.
Experience
In addition to natural ingredients and proprietary formulas, there is another cornerstone of the Tapir Wagenpflege philosophy: namely, 100 percent manual production.
Manual labor – combined with precious raw materials from nature – promises a very special quality in itself. And is a real challenge. Because the raw materials supplied from around the world are rarely standardized. Depending on the origin, season and/or year of harvest, there are always surprises that need to be taken into account during production.
The raw materials, weighed according to their own recipes, are then transported from the warehouse to the factory and processed – each individual recipe separately. The waxes are placed in the 150 liter wax melter where they are gently heated. Then oils and color pigments are added which are refined using some production secrets, which for obvious reasons are not revealed.
It can take up to two days for the production team to be satisfied with the consistency and properties of the preparation in the formulation. Only then can the product be filled in small batches. This is done very gently with the temperature-controlled fillers. A final check ensures that everything is perfect,
Tapir retention tests from the last decades prove that Tapir products are long-lasting and still fully usable even after many years.
We at Valfrids have, of course, visited Tapir, and we can confirm that they’re classic car enthusiasts too! Bodo has a really nice Volvo station wagon from the ’70s, which he’s even driven all across Scandinavia. Another guy in production restores and collects Citroën CV2s (Hubert, far left below). So they know what they’re talking about.
