A finely ground powder made from “premium grade” green tea leaves grown in the shade at high altitudes in Uji, Kyoto, Japan.

Matcha, the classic tea ceremony tea, has a slightly sweet, full-bodied, smooth flavor. Enjoy it as a classic shot mixed with hot water, in a vanilla matcha latte, in a green smoothie, or mixed with your favorite juice for an extra boost.

We prefer to drink it as tea, just with water. This matcha is so good that it’s almost a shame to mix it into a smoothie.
Use only a little water, and make sure it’s not too hot. Max 75–80 degrees. Traditionally, a bamboo whisk is used, but if you don’t have one, you can use a small whisk of another kind or even a spoon. Matcha should be strong; it’s like a “Japanese espresso.”

This matcha comes from Uji, a high-altitude region in the mountains surrounding Kyoto, which is known for producing some of the finest Japanese teas. The area is remote and remains unspoiled by modern “civilization.” It is teeming with insects such as spiders, ladybugs, praying mantises, and dragonflies, which keep pests under control. This is an organically grown matcha. With conventionally grown matcha, there is a risk that both synthetic fertilizers and pesticides have been used. The shrubs grow in the shade during the first few months so that their leaves can fill with chlorophyll.
