Magnesium Sensitive is a gentle magnesium supplement that contains magnesium glycerophosphate. It is an easily absorbed form of magnesium and is suitable for people who are intolerant to magnesium citrate.

In the form of magnesium citrate, the magnesium is bound to citric acid. Like magnesium glycinate (magnesium bisglycinate) *, magnesium glycerophosphate has a binding form that allows it to be well absorbed by the body. This is because the magnesium is bound to glycerol and phosphorus (phosphate) at two sites, which helps prevent the magnesium from reacting with or binding to other substances in the stomach. This way, the magnesium that can pass into the small intestine is protected.

Magnesium glycerophosphate can also dissolve at a more alkaline pH further down in the small intestine, where nutrient absorption primarily takes place. The binding to glycerol and phosphorus (phosphate) also makes magnesium fat-soluble, allowing cells to absorb it through a process known as passive diffusion and then release the magnesium into the bloodstream. In addition, this form of binding helps reduce the risk of magnesium binding with fluid in the intestine and passing through the intestinal tract as a waste product. Because magnesium does not bind as easily with water, the body is better able to absorb it, and the risk of an upset stomach is reduced.
