Horse Chestnut and Rutin—Support for Blood Vessels and Circulation
We’ve been selling horse chestnut over the counter for many years and have heard from many customers that it has helped them with “heavy legs,” particularly poor circulation in the legs, as well as alleviating fatigue and reducing the appearance of varicose veins on the legs. Horse chestnut has been used in traditional medicine for centuries, especially in Europe, primarily to support circulation.
Aescin, the active ingredient in horse chestnut, is found in many plants and has traditionally been used to support circulation and vascular health. Horse chestnut extract is also known to contain flavonoids and other polyphenolic compounds.
Rutin, which is also contained in the formula, comes from the Japanese pagoda tree (or its flower buds). Rutin is a natural bioflavonoid that has traditionally been used to support vascular health and circulation. Rutin is found in many fruits. It is a well-known bioflavonoid. Sophora japonica is a traditional source of rutin in Asian medicine and has been used for centuries. The flower buds are particularly rich in rutin.
The combination of Rutin and horse chestnut extract creates a synergistic effect, helping to maintain vascular integrity and elasticity.
