Origin USA
Red cedar oil (Juniperus virginiana) is a highly concentrated essential oil, so only a few drops are needed. It has a dry, slightly sweet and fresh scent of wood oil that has many different uses: as a fragrance in soaps, aromatherapy, skin creams and in the home/caravan against pests, as they hate the smell.
The red cedar is derived from the cypress plant Juniperus virginiana, or Blyerts as it is also known. The pencil mustard is part of a genus, and family of cypress plants. It is a very hardy plant. Its true range is in eastern North America. In mountainous regions, the pencil ash reaches 1000 meters above sea level and is a very stately tree. Its wood is used, for example, to make items used to keep pests out of clothes and other fabric materials, or in this case essential oil. In these contexts, pencil lead is known as red cedar, a name that is not actually correct but has become accepted.
Red cedar blends well with eucalyptus, tee tree, cinnamon and vanilla as a scent combination. Pests flee this pungent scent, which is why it is commonly used in, for example, the caravan or on the shore over the winter. NOTE: Toxic. Do not use near children or animals.
